Update from the Course Manager
The course continues to perform well despite the challenging conditions. The recent frosts have helped bring down the remaining leaves, which are now being cleared. Thank you for your patience during this process—we appreciate how frustrating it can be. Leaf clearance is the biggest challenge faced by greenkeeping teams from October through December. Our team is out blowing and collecting leaves every day, but with the sheer number of trees and volume of leaves, even a full day’s work can sometimes appear to make little difference.
This year the club has seen over 33,000 rounds played—the highest number ever recorded at Henley. With this increased usage, we kindly ask for your continued assistance in repairing divots on fairways, as we have noticed a rise in the number being left unrepaired.
Due to the high volume of play, both the 7th and 13th tees are becoming increasingly worn, with three months of winter conditions still to come. As a result, the Course Committee has decided to trial the use of small winter mats on these tees. All members must use these mats when teeing off. The mats will be placed beside the tees and should help us remain on the yellow, red, and green tees throughout the winter. If the mats are not used, the only alternative will be to move play forward to the very front of the green tees to protect the remaining teeing areas.
You will also have noticed that areas around the completed bunkers on holes 11–14, as well as the repaired “track” between the holes, have been roped off. These are NO PLAY ZONES and relief MUST be taken. Please do not play from the newly laid turf. The track will be overseeded and fed in the spring to support recovery.
