Captains Charity Day 6th May 2024

2024 Henley Golf Club Captains Charity Day

Sir Steve Redgrave and sports presenter Steve Rider joined the Henley Golf Club Captains Nigel Woolven and Caroline Thomas to play in the annual Charity Day competition to raise money for local charity Nomad. A full field of 96 players competed in the team Stableford shot gun start.

At the lunch Tim Prior explained that Nomad Youth & Community project is a local charity that supports children, young people, and families at grass roots level here in Henley and the surrounding villages. They provide support for those facing challenging situations in their lives and seek to work collaboratively with other organisations and agencies through delivering positive and individually tailored programs of support. They also run the local food bank which distributed over £40,000 worth of donated food within 800 food parcels to local individuals and families in the past year.

A silent auction was supplemented by a live auction when club professional Mark Howell extracted even more generous donations from the room including for one event that was sold more than once! The organisers are confident the day will raise more than £20,000 for Nomad.

Finally, the prizes were presented by Steve Redgrave and Steve Rider for nearest the pin, beat the pro, longest drive and then the team prize which was won with a magnificent 100 points by Edgar and Amanda Aponte and Mike and Amanda Poulson.
